No legal advice

The content on this website — including guides, articles, videos, and forum answers — is general information, not legal advice, and does not create a solicitor-client relationship. A solicitor-client relationship is formed only when we both sign a written retainer agreement.

Where we practise

Treadstone Law’s lawyers are licensed by the Law Society of Ontario, and Ontario is the only province in which we hold a licence. Some of what we do is federal rather than provincial — immigration and tax matters, for example — and is not tied to any one province.

Some pages on this site describe work in other provinces, including business and franchise transactions. Where we act on a matter connected to another province, we do so only to the extent permitted to an Ontario licensee under the National Mobility Agreement and the rules of the law society of that province, and we retain local counsel where a step requires a lawyer licensed there. Nothing on this website is an offer to provide legal services in a jurisdiction where we are not permitted to do so.

If you are outside Ontario, tell us where you are when you get in touch. We will confirm in writing — before any work begins and before you owe us anything — who will be acting, in which province, and what it will cost. If we cannot properly act, we will say so and, where we can, point you to someone who can.

Starting a file

Submitting an intake or booking an introduction call does not, by itself, retain us or guarantee that we will act for you. We confirm our engagement, scope, and fees in writing before any work begins.

Fees

Quoted fees are estimates of legal fees and, where indicated, exclude disbursements and applicable taxes. Your final fee is confirmed in writing before work begins — with third-party disbursements and government charges itemized separately, at cost — as described on our Pricing page.

Intellectual property

All content on this site is owned by or licensed to Treadstone Law and may not be reproduced without permission.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Treadstone Law is not liable for any loss arising from reliance on general information published on this website. Always seek advice specific to your situation.
