Your privacy, protected.

Last updated June 2026. Treadstone Law is licensed by the Law Society of Ontario.

Treadstone Law (“we”, “us”) is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and our professional obligations to the Law Society of Ontario.

What we collect

We collect only what we need to provide legal services and operate this website:

  • Contact details you give us (name, email, phone, address)
  • Matter information you provide through intake, uploads, or (once it launches) the client portal
  • Identity-verification information required by law
  • Basic, anonymized website analytics

How we use it

Your information is used to open and manage your file, communicate with you, meet our legal and regulatory obligations, and improve our services. We do not sell your personal information — ever.

How we protect it

Files and documents are stored using 256-bit encryption in access-controlled systems. When our client portal launches, communications through it will be encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is limited to the staff working on your matter.

AI-assisted drafting & your questions

When you submit a question through Ask a Lawyer, we use Claude, an AI assistant built by Anthropic, through our own private tools to help prepare a first draft of a reply and, where appropriate, a general-information version for the website. Claude only ever sees the question you submit — it has no access to your file, our other clients’ information, or anything else in our systems.

Every draft is reviewed, edited, and approved by a member of our team before anything is sent to you or published. No AI-drafted content ever reaches you or the website without a human review.

Your question and our reply are stored securely in Vercel’s private file storage (not a public database) until your question is answered. We plan to delete them automatically once answered; until that automated process is built, we clear answered questions manually on a regular basis.

With your consent, we may publish an anonymized, general version of your question and our answer to help others with similar questions — your name, contact details, and any identifying specifics are removed first. You can tell us not to when you submit your question.

Your rights

You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you. To make a request, or to ask a privacy question, contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@treadstonelaw.ca.

Cookies & analytics

This site uses minimal cookies for essential functionality and aggregate analytics. You can disable cookies in your browser; some features may not work as intended.

For website analytics we use Plausible, a privacy-friendly, cookieless service that measures aggregate traffic only — it does not use tracking cookies and does not collect any personal or identifiable information.

We also use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use the site. Google Analytics may set cookies and process usage data (such as pages viewed, approximate location, device type, and referral source) on our behalf; we do not use it to identify you personally. You can review Google’s Privacy Policy, install the Google Analytics opt-out, or block analytics cookies in your browser.
