What documents do I need to apply to OINP?

TSL Written by the Treadstone Law team· Updated June 2026

The documents required for an OINP application depend on the stream, but there are common categories across most of them. You will generally need: identity documents (passport, government-issued ID), language test results, educational credential documents (transcripts, diplomas), employment documentation (reference letters, pay stubs, employment contracts, or LMIA depending on stream), and settlement funds evidence if required.

For Express Entry-linked streams, your federal profile already contains some information, but OINP will still ask for supporting documents for its own review. For EJO streams, a copy of the job offer and often the LMIA are central documents.

Document quality matters. IRCC and OINP both look at whether documentation clearly supports the claims in the application. Vague reference letters that do not describe your duties and hours, or employment records that do not match your stated NOC code, are common causes of refusal or requests for information.

All documents not in English or French must be accompanied by a certified translation. OINP specifies requirements for who can provide certified translations — not all translators will qualify.

Keep originals of everything you submit. You may be asked to produce originals at any point in the process, including after you arrive in Canada.

Key takeaways

  • Required documents vary by stream but include identity, language results, education, and employment records.
  • EJO streams require the job offer and typically an LMIA.
  • Documents must be clear, complete, and consistent with your application claims.
  • Non-English/French documents need certified translations meeting OINP's standards.
