Does having a Canadian job offer help my Express Entry application?

A valid qualifying job offer can add points to your CRS score — the exact number depends on the NOC skill level of the position. Generally, a senior manager or executive-level offer adds more points than a skilled-worker offer. This can meaningfully improve your ranking and chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply.

However, the job offer must meet specific IRCC criteria to qualify. Most qualifying offers require either a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or a job offer exempt from the LMIA requirement under a specific category (such as certain intra-company transfers or positions covered by international trade agreements). Not every Canadian employer is familiar with these requirements, so clarifying the LMIA situation early is important.

It is also worth understanding that many Express Entry draws — particularly those targeting specific occupations or Canadian Experience Class candidates — do not require a job offer at all.
